Dr. Chun-Ying Yu, guided the 9th CCU iGEM Team and won the gold medal.

The iGEM competition is an international interdisciplinary student competition hosted by MIT, primarily focusing on synthetic biology. The Department of Biomedical Sciences (BMS) established the CCU_Taiwan team through Higher Education SPROUT Project, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration among students from different colleges within the university by participating in the competition.
From October 28 to 31, 2025, the CCU_Taiwan team-mentored by Assistant Professor Chun-Ying Yu and Jing-Jie Weng from the BMS and Assistant Professor Ching Hung, from Bachelor Program in Interdisciplinary Studies-comprised 15 students from five departments across four colleges at CCU participated in the iGEM competition hold in Paris with a project focused on developing diabetic foot patches, earning the distinction of gold medal. The project successfully integrated the students' biomedical expertise (competitive receptors for advanced glycation end products) and materials expertise (exudate-absorbing patches), combining it with social practice activities to comprehensively assist in the prevention of diabetes and the rehabilitation of patients with diabetic foot.
